The Teaching Assistants with Jonesville Academy are responsible for individual students – or smaller groups of students – who need assistance with absorbing the lesson material. This volunteer position works with the lead Educator during the class period, may assist with implementing lesson plans, recording attendance, report student performance, and reporting progress. 

Responsibilities

  • Set up necessary material for classes (e.g. projectors, math sets)
  • Assist teachers with implementing the lesson, as needed
  • Track student attendance
  • Review the material taught in class with individual students with learning challenges
  • Work with smaller groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcing the learning process, if needed
  • Escort and supervise students during the program
  • Assist leaders in ensuring classrooms are safe and tidy before classes start, and help clean after each class
  • Help students adjust, learn, and socialize, and report to teachers about possible behavioral issues

  • Great communication and organizational skills
  • Cool-tempered and positive attitude
  • A love for teaching and the ability to build a trusting and meaningful relationship with students, teachers and parents
  • Bachelor’s degree or seeking a degree in education, preferred

Time Allotted

Student Assistants may serve on the below-listed Saturdays from 8:30am – 12:30pm. 

Fall 2025 – September 13 (Opening Day), September 27, October 11, October 25*, November 8, November 22, and December 6. 

Spring 2026 – January 24,  February 7, February 21, March 7, March 21, April 4, and April 18.
